Drivers Seat for 1988 Clipper

Post

I'm desperately trying to track down a drivers seat for my Clipper as the current one is splitting, has no foam on the edges and doesn't move at all!!

I've seen loads that look similar but don't quite have the right pattern like this:

If anyone knows of one going spare please let me know! Many thanks :)

Go to the how to section on the forum there is a guide I did for this problem.

It has step by step guide to swapping the foams out. The foams afaik are available from Germany still. You need really a passenger base to swap over. The base foam and seat cover are interchangeable from either side. So good passenger seat base would do. You need to have a look see why the seat isn't working. It could be the plastic glides that fit onto the seat legs at the rear or the guide on the front where the runner slides forwards. Take a picture of the underneath where the handle etc is.

Thanks Chortle, I'll get reading! Does that mean that the seat covers come off and are washable??

The handle for moving the seat just flaps about pathetically so it's obviously broken. We did try WD40 on the rails but nothing doing so I'll get it out and have a look at what state it's in at the weekend

Yes you can wash em.

they have metal rods in the sleeves that hold the cover in place so youll have to wiggle em out.

I soaked mine in the bath lol. If you have got a sewing machine you could always take the worn bit out and replace from another bit of material. What happens is the drivers bolster gets hammered getting in and out of the car, but the passenger inner bolster is next to the gear stick so doesn't, but if you look at the orientation on the seats the passenger inner is the same side as the drivers outer..some folks swap over as they see the drivers side wear down, once you to the metal rod under the side bloster this stretches the fabric  and eventually wears a hole through…

That's a great thread, thanks for the advice.

We recovered our VW Campervan seats once, that was fun, NOT! I do however have a sewing machine (not great with it to be fair   ) so that will come in handy. I like the idea of swapping the seat covers and foam over though as they're perfect on that side.

I'll have to do it soon as I don't think I can take the pain for much longer

I have a complete rear bench in exactlly that trim and later doorcards. (no front seats mind)

You could use the fabric off those and get a trimmer to re do the front seats.  Plus spare material should you ever need it for repairs.
just a thought…

Thanks Chortle ;)Sadly I don't think I'm confident enough to try that myself and as our Campervan is taking trimming priority at the moment I certainly won't be able to afford it just yet :(Maybe if we can sort out the seat adjustor I'll just get a cushion for now
