Welcome aboard and a nice car! Not to many all red cabriolets about, make sure you look after it! Do you have any specific plans for it, or are you looking just to keep it tidy and pristine?
Cheers,
Drew.

Hello again, nice to speak to you all. The car is a 1989 karmann, with only 63.5k on the clock genuine, all hpi clear full service history, very very well lokked after up to now, I will be keeping up the attention it deserves, just a slight few mods, ie air filter, brakes and a nice new stereo!, as for it being a sportline I don't know, how can I find out? As i say I am a newbie and any advice would be very welcome. Thanx.

Hi Simon, nice find! Tidy cabrios are getting hard to find these days.
The car won't be a sportline model, its too early. Sportline cars were a limited edition which started around Jreg I think. They had bbs rims, recaro seats, black VW grille badge, and sportline motif on the rear 1/4 panels to name a few extras. Also they had electric roof and windows as did all cabrios from 1990 on.
Cheers,
Ross

Crazyquiff - your right apart from the mistype. They are called AVUS accorting to ETOS but are also quite commonly called Scala as they featured on the Scirocco Scala.

Simon,
Personally I'd advise against changing the air filter as the k-jetronic system actually works best with the standard dry paper filter. The jetex style washable filters can allow tiny particles of the oil they are cleaned with into the injector system and it can cause problems. You won't see any performance increase anyway as there is plenty of air available for the engine either way.
Whatever you do, do not put one of the alternative air intake systems on your car, the injection system is very sensitive to air flow and these systems will cause starting, idling and lumpy running problems!
As for the brakes, they have a largely undeserved bad reputation. You will probably find that if you replace all the main components with new originals, lubricant the moving parts and pay attention to brake fluid you'll find they actually work very well!
Agree with you on the stereo though - just don't cut any holes in the parcel shelf! If you do want bigger speakers back there, make yourself an MDF shelf and keep the original one tucked safely away!
Cheers,
Drew.

Cheers for the advice Drew, looks like i will be able to keep it completly standard then which will be nice as it really is a tidy little motor!! I can now just concentrate on the ice then, I have already aquired 2x 6x9 and 2 7x10s made by infinity and a nice big bass box to fit in the boot which I'm unsure about at the moment as i don't want to sound like a nightclub coming down the road,
I am thinking a nice new set of alloys though or get the ones on it revamped what do you think?
Thanx again for all the advice.

Totally agree - renewed the pads and discs on mine yesterday and braking vastly improved even though still bedding in. Also bled the brake system a bit which cleared a couple of air bubbles and some detritus in the fluid - peddle much firmer now
