Hello,

My name is Briano, I am a TRF, Vortex, and VOC club member from the US.
I was looking at a linked topic, and discovered that some one mentioned my name, I think it was in a good way.
Well I have been driving a Rabbit/Golf since 1980 off the showroom, 1981 4 Door Alpine Green, Diesel LS… had over 480Kilometers
on it when I sold it 20 year later, and it still had the original axles on it.  :)  Yes they groaned on turns.

I am now in to US 90 Cabriolets, and have written a few how do you do that's.  While they are based on the 90 MK1, a lot is still applicable….

So here they are, have a great year.

Just a who am I?
My first car was a 58 AH Sprite, I totally bought it at age of 13, for 50 dollars, and it ran back in 1971.  I dissasembled it, and started to gather parts for it, I had the engine bored, new pistons, and wouldn't you know came across a 67 MG Midget for 250, when I was only 15… Totally rebuilt that engine, tranny, suspension, (Armstrong lever action shocks) with my Fathers assistance, and drove it like I was at Lemans….1100CC of fun…. Taught me Mechanics, and that you guys valued heaters as an dealer installed add-on (yep have the original window sticker)…. Even in cold Illinois, the heater wasn't the Greatest….

The 58 was put on hold, and remains to this day, with the body work done, new wiring harness, Engine ready to be built, Tranny overhauled, all the various bits and pieces in boxes and bags, polished waxed and coated with Cosmoline… sitting in a barn in Illinois….for over40 years… I will get to it one day….Funny how life interrupts plans…

The last car of my youth was a 72 Rover 3500S that I bought in 74 for 1400…. It was a nice ride… Champion Spark plugs paid for a engine rebuild (because of defective plugs, getting ingested in to 2 opposing Cylinders) and I had Borg Warner rebuild the tranny for free…(helps to know folks).

I have wrenched rebuilt and repaired all my auto's and got in to Rabbits/Golfs in 1980 when I needed a car with good mileage, So I drove a 81 Diesel LS off the showroom, green/tan….. put well over 300K miles on it prior to sell it in 2000.

Had some Physical issues and kiddies didn't want a diesel…. So 4 years later I bought my first Cabriolet, Triple white, replaced the clutch, top, put a header, short shifter, and got 42mph on the highway @ 75 mph… As I had the shop lined up to paint it, I got rear ended,,, totaled… didn't cry, they gave me 4 times what I had paid for it.

So being the fool I bought 2 more in 8 months, and currently drive them both, well a daughter drives one, and I drive the other.   I have replaced and repaired a lot of things but here they are for your perusal.

Yep both are automatics….. Nope I am not ever going to swap them out.

A couple of tidy cars you have there.
I see you have power steering and is that digifant fuel injection and I guess you have a CAT fitted?

You seem to have more pipes and sensors I'm used to on my 88 GTi.

Yes, I have Power Steering, Power Windows, and the Knee-Bar from Hades.  I have converted from a Single Down Pipe to Dual Down, and I have a CAT, which I put on for emissions, get inspected, remove and install on the other cabby, get inspected, and removed… :)  I only have but 1 more inspection on one, and 2 on the other before they pass the 25 year mark, and I have a Cat Delete SS header that will be putting on.. Can't wait.

Sensors are not the issue it is those plastic outlet flanges, and fitting on the cooling system that has been a PITA.
But I have figured out how to replace them with parts off a 84 Golf/Cabriolet so I don't have to replace them any more as it was a yearly thing… See my link above to I HATE Plastic Parts.

Thanks for the complements, I do get winks and nods from folks in the parking lots of stores, and I get really big smiles when I use the thing for Hauling Plywood, and Lumber…

It may not be the fastest thing but I can go from 0-topless in 2 seconds flat… :)

Thank you…

That is because I have A/C on both cars, (Yes it works really really good.).  The Vin's are in 3 places.
The ZZZZ one that is the build is on the rain tray.
There is one on the "B" pillar sill of the Drivers door, and then the plate on the Dash.

I have gotten 2nd place in shows, but that was a few years ago, every year when it is show time something comes up…so I can't go…but then there is always next year….

But A/C in Georgia where the street temps can hit well over 100, as in the summer does come in really handy, seen the street temp on my van hit 130….
