Hi There
I have just found vwgolfmk1 site and it is great!
i was looking for a mk1 site as i have just purchased
a 83 1100 l which i intend to referb and go a little euro on
I previously owned a MK1 GTS 5 door, I think it was a
purely South African Model 1600 carb.
3doors here were only available as GT's 1600 carb
or the L 1100. South Africa may also be one of the only places
in the world that still has a1's rolling off our local vw assebly line.
the latest edition to the citi golf is called the velociti.

Thanx for the response
Thanx for the response guys
I will be putting up pics shortly
I just picked up the car today no major rust
problems but its running crappy doesnt idle.
I got it from a dealer would you belive.
& i paid a little more than i was prepared
to but the body seems pretty good. the OD
reading is something like 320000k's so you can
imagine that pretty much everything else is quite
nackered.
my dad has an appy working on his MG Racecar, I will
let him check everything out and then decide if im going to
fix to be a better runner or lose the motor and start with
major surgery right away. the idea is to have a super neat
looking old school car.
Please give me your ideas on which motor
1.4I
1.6 8v carb
1.8 8v carb

hi there
personally, i would take the 1.4i, but if a larger engine is available why not,
id just prefer a smaller one as something too powerful for the body might be dangerous to ones health when feeling a little adventurous

hiya mate, i have been trying to explain to people on here about the gts five speed box, i had it in a 1.8 carb with 2.0 bottom end and i think i only needed 2 of the five gears 8O one close ratio box that was! in red at 100 in fifth! is there any 3 door models available over there? i have had a few citis and love em,
cheers,
paul
p.s if you sort brakes (the sports have different calipers mk2 8valve) and suspension (factory is strong but not very sporty with to much roll) think big engine
