rejoining the mk1 world :)

hi
I bought my first mk1 when i was 16 to thrash about in at my mum and dads farm. As it turned out the golf i had just bought was a 1976 yellow mk1 gold with original interior. The car turned out to be a rust bucket but the enfine was good so i bought my 2nd mk1. a red 5 door which originally started life as a 1.1 formel e, but the engine had been repleaced with a 1.6 deisel for economy. (You keeping up?)

The deisel went through an engine swap (The 1.1 out of the yellow one) and underwent a full respray with mk 2 bbs wheels and a few other bits and pieces to bring it back to its full glory.

I was missing some door seal so asked vw how much!   How much indeed! I thought i'll just use the old ones but then found they were wrecked. This the point i was driving to work and spotted a silver mk1 in a field used for thrashing about (a child after my own heart) and asked if i could buy it for the door seals ?20 later it was mine and i was driving home in a totally illegal banged up mk1 with mud everywhere!

My red mk1 was finshed and was really happy until i went to uni and had to take it off the road because of beer money. That was nearly 4 years ago now and its almost time to resurrect my mk1. It also the time i found this website and what a gem!

First things first i will need a new tailgate, new engine and gearbox and new suspension (Hopefully coilovers). When that happens i'll be a happy man once more.

Thanks for reading Dan

Welcome to the club! Mine was thrashed about on a farm in it's 'dark years' by my cousin - probably goes better for it now though! (Had to bend to lower front panel back where it should have been when me and my dad rescued it though - the fields were bumpy!  ) Let's just say it has a much more peaceful life now! Good luck with the car!
