Hi All
I'm new to this group and I just wanted to say hello to all. I'm the new proud owner of a Hellios Blue Campaign reg. A616HLC. The car came with the club's tax disc holder so some of you may know this car from previous owners?
The car is completely original apart from a Konig lowering kit and BBS RA alloys, but will soon be stripped down for a full resto…can't wait!
No doubt during the resto, I'll be needing some help so I look forward to chatting to you guys very soon. â€

Welcome to the forum, from the pictures that looks pretty perfect already, why are you going to do a full restoration?
If that's got original paint and looks like It is, I would leave well alone, it's only original once.

Thanks guys…it seems to be the original paint but unfortunately it's got some small rust spots popping up in the usual places so since it has to go in for these bits, its best to give it a refresh.
If I'm committing a crime, please let me know Yomp let me know the Facebook page and I'll add the details.

Just get the bad bits repaired and blended.
I'd not touch that to he honest… It looks very clean.
I'm not sorting mine out and it's a s**$ state compared to what yours looks like……. I do like em rough and ready tho, I know most prefer them super clean.

If it's going to live in Cyprus then surely not going to deteriorate anymore, let's see some pictures of the bits you are not happy with.

Welcome to the club. That's a great looking car. I have to agree with what the others have said, it looks way too good to need a resto and it's only original once!
Mars red 1.8 GTI tintop now MOT'd and on the road!

Morning all,
Apologies the delay in getting some more pics up…the weather's been a bit pants lately. I managed to get some pics this morning just to show you a couple of spots where the rust is setting in. I didn't manage to get the car on a lift so not great….

Yes it certainly does because don't forget rust is like an ice berg, what you see is only a 1/3 of it!

I'm just waiting for a quote from my body shop on various ways to go about restoration and how deep to go with it. Once I get started, I'll start a build thread…I just know it's gonna be a long long road 🤪

It may be just fixable with a localised repair, be good to take off the rear wheel arch trims and see what is underneath , I did it to mine and they were surprisingly perfect, yet I have seen another concours looking car hide a real horror behind.
The more you can keep original paint the better, if you can just restrict to repainting the sills and valances.
