ning!
my names skip, im from Guildford, i like walks on the beach, candle light meals, trips to the cinem… oh wait, wrong website..
I Own a bluey Purple (im waiting for the paper work to come back so sorry on the vagueness) Mk1 Cabby karmman auto.
i love her very much, and today she went in for her service and MOT so i signed up last night "just in case" - my girlfriend has mentioned more then once she feels the relationship i have with my car is more meaningful then the one i have with her… :s
im here for tips on tidying her up (shes looking a little tatty - not massively so, just a few minor details) and to hopefully talk with other people who the mk1 is as wonderful as i do.
picture below is of my car (taken by the previous owner) she is not the prettiest example, but i like her, and i think shes nice.
anyway nice to be here, to be here nice.

i know im not too descriptive bout the Colour but like i said paper work is on its way to me.. hopefully… though this is the DVLA im Dealing with
oh and the MOT brought - new tires, new breaks, and a "warning" about the trim on the drivers side window….
edit: and another call just now to tell me to get the drivers side trim sorted as well….
mot inspectors - making my life miserable since 1997
MisterWild - yes. they are non standard wheels, and if you know where i can pick up some standard ones all help gratefully appreciated - the ones on her at the moment are, frankly, a bit naff.
thanks again for making me feel so welcome

If it is a Rivage - should say on the V5 when you get it - then the standard wheels are Le Castellet 15" polished forged alloys, which are rare-ish and a few hundred quid for a decent set; if it's a Clipper then 14" steels with fluted plastic trim rings are standard. Otherwise just ask and someone here will know.
Watching 'parts for sale' or sticking up a post on 'parts wanted' should see you right, failing that there's always eBay.

Trim on the windows - d'you mean the black strip that runs down beside the windscreen on either side?
If so, definitely get it sorted if its loose - I lost mine on the M25 - pretty dangerous!. Windscreens and motorcyclists spring to mind!!! 8O

It's a bit of a trek but I know of a good chap in Basingstoke who's honest and straight. He could tackle everything you've mentioned. Give me a shout if you'd like his details.
Does sound like quite a bit of damage, was it your fault and are you 3rd party?

Such a shame the circumstances aren't taken into account sometimes. I'm sure if his insurance company knew how he was driving it'd be a different set of circumstances.
I take it you're not fully comp then?
Really gutted for you mate - At least the Golfy won't be silly money to repair! I'd be very surprised if you did need 2k to get yours back on the road. Bumper, wings, lights, bonnet, does the car need much more than that?
Annoyingly you've not got a common colour otherwise you could swap all those parts straight on. Wouldn't see that bill coming to more than ?300. Brand new lights are only ?15 or thereabouts from GSF (German, Swedish, French) or ECP (EuroCarParts) Painting parts though a different matter…
CrazyQuiff has lots of second hand parts - His ad's on the right (edit - on left in fact. Must re-write L and R on my hands…)
Scouse also breaks Golfs - he could help too?
Good luck with it all - Don't get too disheartened with it all. Golfs are sturdy cars and repairing with second hand parts is not silly money at all.
All the best

mo not fully comp as i only insured her to take her for her MOT so i could find out what was needed to be done to her and sorn her again… serves me right really.
i shall contact GSF (i know them well after buying pretty much an entire e30 in parts from them) when ive done a full assessment of the golf.

im dropping it over to his tomorrow, he really is a very talented guy - the mk1 in his garage… the paint was so well polished it looked like a boiled sweet, and has inspired me to de trim mine as it frankly looks dammed fine.
edit: i need new lights and a new grill too…

Good plan!
Really good news mate - another Golfy kept on the roads despite circumstances!

oh and how did i write off the AMG?….
well my bumper is dammed low and his kind of isnt… so i crumpled his floor pan in the boot.. which butted the petrol tank.. which buckled the chasis (apparently, according to the lovely people at Slyfield Mercedes, - im disputing this in the hopes it doesnt end up on my insurance)
in short my golf is like the terminator - i think it will take molten metal or a trip back in time to kill her.
