Never done an engine conversion so I can't help with that I'm afraid but I can give a little advice re buying a mk1 cab! Firstly look at the buying guide and inwardly digest! Secondly, I had a 1.6 cab about 9 years ago! The carb was always a bit of a problem! It was the Pierburg 2E2. Check to see that it works correctly from absolutely cold so that all the automatic choke components have to work! Best thing was a webber conversion! You will love the mk1 cab! Far better in my opinion to the mk3!  :D

What is your budget? Just in case any of us see anything that might suit! :)

don't laugh!

limited budget as i have to get a family car too. Looking at a maximum of ?1500, cheaper would be better as i would rather spend out to get it sorted and then gradually do it up as an appreciating classic! :dontknow:

Welcome mate.

Have I missed something? Why don't you get an 1800cc in the first place rather than a conversion.

or

Is there something about a 1600 that I'm not aware of?

What this freezing on the inside in winter business?

Mines a 'daily' and doesn't freeze on the inside nor does it leak nor does in break down (fingers crossed).

Cabbies are as good as tin tops but for different reasons. blah blah blah..

Chrissi… you wanna walk to All Types now then???!!!!

Welcome to your new home Chipster. Where in the country are you?

  its an MG
I know, its underpinnings share some rover bits and the body shell is similar but you'll have to trust me when I says its a pretty good car for the money, the suspension and handling were sorted by a company called WSR (west surrey racing) the people who race them in the BTCC. I sold my impreza for this car. besides my daily driver is the white GTI and the MG is used by the missus
