Newbie with my 1988 MK1?
Hello!
I'm stumbled across this car hidden away down a drive in york. She's not been driven in two years - and needs a bit of TLC. Picked her up for a couple of hundred quid, bargin! (i hope!) Towed her home, parked her on the drive - (guess i should have told my parents!)
I currently drive a MK4 GTDI, but it's nothing compared to this beauty. Can't wait to get stuck in!
All seems to be in good machanical working order, the only documents I got with it were to say it failed it's last MOT on two tyers and a light.
Its log book says it's a 1988 1.6 - which would make it MK2, but I belive it's still classed as a MK1 as it has a mk1 engine and body and convertable roof… i think? (sorry I've got a lot to learn)
Needs a new roof (just found some excellent info on this site about where to get one), seats and a dashboard. (any tips?) and then the wheels, I mean, they'd look lovley on a Corsa or something, personally, not my thing - anyone want to swap them for origionals!?! haha.
Also, just insured her for £600 F/C BARGIN, (im only 19) from the CO-OP with a tracker, limited milage at 5k and no drving after 11pm or during rush hour! Pay £1800 on my mk4, think it's going to have to go to fund this new hobby.
Anyway, thanks for reading - looking forward to your anual gathering, hopefully she'll be on the road by then!

Hi there! Welcome to the club.
Yeah you're right it's definitely a Mk1! The Mk1 tintops stopped in early 1984 but the Mk1 Cabriolets and Caddy Pick-ups carried on during the Mk2 era. Looks like a bargain you got there! Enjoy it! 8)

Looks good. Love the colour. Does anyone know if it's an original colour?

Nice car buddy - looks like a GL with newer seats fitted?
Not too much work to restore to original - and looks like you've already got a webber/manual choke fitted so you'll avoid a lot of the ball ache of the Pierburg
good luck with it!
