Newbie who's just bought a resto gti

Hi everyone , I've just bought myself a  resto gti and will be looking for a lot of advice on how to restore it back to its former glory .
 to be hoest it was an impulse purchase after watching to many car programmes !!!
i used to own  one exactly the  same bitd  and got a bit nostalgic one night " I'm probably not the only person who's done this "

Once you start driving your car you will soon realise that there are an awful lot of people wishing they could do the same thing, you get more reactions than if you were driving a Ferrari, just been passed a cycle race in mine and thought I was going to end up with a scene from Golden Eye!
