Newbie from Lincoln

Afternoon all. I'm about to embark on another mk1 purchase, managed to go 4 years since my other, and thought I'd say Hi. I'm looking for a good clean standard example or lightly modified and have 2.5k burning a hole in my pocket. What will this buy me these days?

good luck in your search, ?2500 will buy you a whole lot of fun   search wisely with that budget you should pick yourself up a real nice one with that budget, just look thro the for sale section get an idea of what condition  car goes for wot sort of money, the more you spend the less you should expect to be wrong with it or things to be fixed. if your arfter a cabby i'd say dont rush to buy its coming up to the time of year (autumn/ winter)  when a few more come up for sale due to the summer cabby fever ending might get your self a good bargain. always best to keep some of your budget back i think so you have some cash available to sort probs out with it should you get any   :D

Welcome to the forum! I'm very jealous that you have that amount to spend, you should have no trouble picking up a very very good example for that.
