New members in sunny Coventry...

Hi there,

We've recently taken on a 1981 GLI cabriolet in a delightful metallic orangey-brown (rust) colour with brown and cream dodgy interior.  It needs a bit of cosmetic work, but the engine is good and all the fundamentals are there.

I've had quite a few VWs, I started with an 83 polo, briefly had a MK2 golf, then MK3 and now a MK4.  My dad restores classic cars as a hobby, and there's a Type 3 fastback restoration project waiting for me when the funds appear (maybe a long time)

We're finding it quite a challenge to get a lot of info on the GLi, so if anyone has one we'd love to hear about it and what to expect etc.
We're pretty new to this and need all the help we can get!

We don't have any pics of the GLi at the moment, but will try and post some at some point.  It's off to the garage for its MOT this week so fingers crossed…

Welcome mate, I'm from Coventry too, there's a little VW meet, not all MK1's at the Pizza Hut on Wednesday evenings, it's not too bad, I don't go often though.

It's good to get on the scene though you can learn a lot that way.

And Coventry is hardly ever sunny, I'd stay away if I was you guys

Yeah Cov is rarely sunny, wasn't bad this morning though.  I'm originally from Devon so it's a bit of a culture shock really!  Hopefully the cab will be up and running by the summer for some trips to the beach. It's getting new brakes and MOT tomorrow, i'm very excited!

Im from Coventry too,
its the sunniest place i have ever been too,lol

Pizza Hut meet is quite good,there is a great turn out and such a variety of cars.

I have a 1980 bronze cabby im breaking if you need any parts mate.
