Welcome to the forum :y:
Where to start??
Personally I made sure (and continue to do so) that mechanically it's sound, engine, steering, suspension, brakes as they're the most important bits.
IF you've any cash left then you sort the bodywork out

I no longer have the Mk1!! I now whizz round in a Black 1990 3dr Mk2 GTi 8v but the roof doesn't fold back when the sun shines

Welcome simpson_eh!!! For parts give funk-star a shout as he's a paid advertiser on here and breaks cabbies. I'd make sure it's road legal then get it out… do work as you go and enjoy the car!!!

if you look at mine it is a mk1 but has a mk2 front grill and lights, as they continued to make the cabby when they brought out the mk2, they gave the mk1 late cabbys a face lift and used a few other various parts off mk2, some people call them a mk1 & 1/2 but they are mk1 none the less

Hi welcome along.
Mine started as a wreck and has come along way in the 7 years that Ive had it. No doubt you'll get to the point of selling it and wondering why you bother - and then, hopefully, you'll carry on!!!
Ask any questions you feel like - the dafter the better, they always get a good laugh and loads of replies!!! Not everyone knows the answer to every question!!!
Have a look at these photos and see where my wreck started.
