New entry from Italy
ciao Guys!
greetings from Vaprio d'Adda village!( Milan county, Italy). I've found this interesting mk1 forum that doesn't exist in Italy (there's one for all Golf 90% tuning point of view!!!).
Next week I'm going to purchase a golf 1978 LS in very good condition owned by two old gentleman and lady: 51000 km with original paint interior and license plate.
As soon as I'll drive it back home I'm going to post here some pictures, as well as starting to post with you all.
regards

Thank you very much.
Just to introduce my self, I am an enthusiast of volkswagen beetle. I owned a 6v volt 1963 and I own a 1302 from 1971. I sold the 6v volt (very good original car but too expensive to restore) and decided to buy a near mint condition GOLF MK1. Like for when I bought beetles, I don't like cabrio's or GTI/tuning car but prefers 100% 'nerdish' one!!!!
I am also a fan (and of course proud, because it is Italian!!!) of Vespa but when I was a youg boy my parents never bought me one. So last year, when I was 31 and it was the last year for production of TRADITIONAL 4 stroke Vespa, I bought a brand new one 150 PX: just one of the last!!! Amazing…. driving the same scooter like the old one plus front disc brake and catalic converter!!!
I am very addicted about decoding VIN and 'spotting' VW cars in terms of birth date. I've created on my website ( www.inerd.it ) a VIN prod calculator based on official tables in which there was written last VIN per month/year. Here's a question for this website GURU:
Is it possible to find that tables for GOLF, also?
Would be nice to create an automatic VIN check also for golf MK1!!!
stay tuned

Okei here they are!!!!
Today, finally there was a good weather here, so I've dediced to clean it inside and outside (Note the 'SOFTCARE' over the washing machine!!!):
Just note the paint sticker and 'prufer' card behind it: seems to be produced yesterday, isn't it?
…pretty clean interiors….
…and 51000Km…..in 30 years!
From Milano suburb area to Vaprio d'Adda village (still inside Milano county). Adda is the river that pass near our village and divides Milano from Bergamo county.

Volkswagen Golf 1100cc GL Dakota Beige, first registration taken on 21st of July 1978 and stayed until 5th of December of 2008 inside the garage of its 1st owner (mr. Sansone!) then passed to me!!!
Chassis Number: 17 8 3 576934. Stamped like that to clarify all the significative digits:
- 17 model type –> yes it's a golf!
- 8 model year 1978 (from Agust 1977 to July 1978)
- 3 Digit separator code (always 2 or 3 in this 4th position from left for 70ies VWs)
- 576934 Serial Number
-If you take care at my original key set, you will see a little plaquette made by can in which is printed the last VIN digits: 3576934 & VW audi logo! Some how to put the car in relationship with the key!!!
- Now let's check the color code, if you see the 4th picture, you will find a plaquette in which are printed these sequence number:
252 - 0733
D5 2 0
252 plannig date prod and/or production date: 25th week of 'solar' year 1978 2nd day of that week. –> For ISO and EU means 20 June 2978. For US just one day before: 19 June 1978!!!! Almost 1 month from production to import and to the final customer!
0733 733th car for that day (not sure but some other experts think so: some kind on sequence serial number inside the production plan/day)
D5 –> Brochure Code (check one of yours, to confirm that!) for Dakota Beige original color.
2 0 —-> Don't know (may be production plant ..etc..)
