I want to keep her original-ish, maybe get some shiny trims outside and replace/clean up the interior. Don't know wheth er to start inside or out?! Get a respray? The boot needs some welding in the tyre well too.

Any ideas on where i should start? was thinking of ripping out the interior first?!

Hi mate, just starting myself, I was going to sort out everything mechanical first then move onto the body and finish with the interior. Depends what you want to do though, cheers Mat

My main problem is that I have vey little mechanical knowledge so i am going to have to pay for most of the work to be done.

I'm in Truro too - let me know if you fancy giving a fellow mk1 a hand!!!

If you can put up with the bodywork looking less than mint, Id get the engine and other bits sorted first. That way at least it will be usable once MOT'ed etc. You cant drive nice paintwork with a duff engine!!!

If you're thinking of valeting the interior, Id wait until the weather warms up a bit to make it easier on the drying front. The last thing you need in winter is moisture inside the car… and these have enough already!!!

Don't talk about moisture int he car! my drive faces up hill and after leaving the car on it for a couple of days the foot wells turned into a swimming pool! still trying to dry it out.
More than happy to help mate, not quite a mechanic but I get by!

Anyone know how to get rid of the dodgy after market sunroof and vinyl roof?

It dawned on me yesterday that the vinyl maybe there to cover up something nasty!

Only way to get rid of sunroof is cut off the roof panel and weld a new one in, i sent a good roof to the crusher just before xmas

The vinyl, well it depend's what is holding it on, best bet, try boiling the kettle and pour over one corner to melt the glue, and try peeling !

If it comes away keep boiling the kettle and pouring over section's to remove.

If not then try a heat gun for removing wallpaper, but be very careful mate, you could reck the paint with this method !
