MPG
Good Morning.
Having fallen in love with the MK1 Cabriolet in my youth, I am now looking at buying one.
My main criteria is to find one which is absolutely bog standard with no distasteful mods.
However, I am unsure which model to get? does anyone know MPG for the GTI vs 1800 vs 1600 please?
Thanks
Will

Not really much in the way of significant difference in terms of economy. It depends mostly on your driving style.
I actually found the 1800 GTI the most economical oddly enough, as it has the most power, and thus needs less throttle to maintain a good speed.
Cheers,
Drew.

Both our Clipper and GTI (both 1800) regularly give us somewhere between 34 - 38 mpg - but my right foot has a problem - it LOVES THAT LOUD PEDAL !!!!!!
We did once get 41 mpg - but that was SOOOOOOOO boring and frustrating !!!!

Owning a Mk1 cabby is a vertical learning curve…

HI i have the 1800 tin top, I have only owned it for a week and took it out weekend for a gentle drive in the country 50mph ish in 5gear most of the time. It returned 42 MPG that?s worked out by filling the car up before the journey and toping it up after. The trip comp was showing 46mpg. My other car is a MK4 TDI and only returns this type of economy I have questioned why am I keeping it!!!
I have tryed it at quick speeds too  MPG is for TDI's!!!! Fun is GTI

the 1800 is a very good unit for mpg, the 1600's gearbox is its main draw back as it revs alot higher than the 1600

The non cat clipper seems to give the best returns on fuel according to VW figures! Urban being 29.7 mpg clipper non cat, 23.7 mpg Rivage LTH and clipper cat, 25.4 mpg Rivage GTI non cat!

I regulary ues the MFA to check on the mpg. I get 43.2 mpg on the journey between Blackburn & Preston which is 11 miles at around 50-56mph.
This is a regular return and I got 42.9 on the motorway running back from Dubfreeze to Preston.
Very happy with that!!!
