mk1 gti..long way from home
Hi. I'm the proud owner of '78 mk1 GTI. Down here (Australia) they're rarer than hen's teeth. They were never sold here, only the basic models.
Mine was originally imported from Germany and converted to rhd. I'm trying to restore it to original condition but naturally i'm in need of a few bits. I'd like to convert it back to lhd. What are the chances of finding a '78 GTi dash, intrument cluster, and steering box in lhd? Of course if successful i've got some rhd ones for sale but it would probaly be cheaper to get them in the U.K. (shipping=$$$$). Can you still get the check material used on the early GTI seats? Mine?…Mars red,1600cc,4-speed, big bumpers.
Thanks in advance
Oznog

Oznog,
Just a week ago, I just found (in my stock of Mk1 bits) a LHD km/h speedo from a '79 GTI.
Would you be interested?
By the way, I also found:
two RHD MPH GTI ones
one RHD MPH one from a GL (analogue clock, instead of rev counter), but the blue circuit "board" (film) is damaged on this one.
If anyone is interested in any of these, PM me, but I'll shortly be putting them in the "For Sale" section properly, as well.
PS: I'm away from the internet from now until Sunday evening (Oh No, withdrawal symptoms! 8O )

Would have thought they would be a few lhd series one dashs doing the rounds on European Ebay sites particularly Germany. Surprised how many rhd series one dashs I saw on uk ebay the other day.
Cheers
