Mk1 enthusiast from Sweden :)

Stumbled onto this forum while searching for pictures on the Mk1 :).

I had been working for quite a while with my Audi S2 RS Avant also causing a large hole in the wallet ;). So this summer it was finally time for some serious driving… well at least for one month before a major boost leak broke down the turbo :(.

Depressed I in some weird and twisted way found comfort in the little hot hatchback modell GOLF, perhaps since a Golf LS -76 was my first car :). So later this summer and autumn I ve been "collecting" mk1:ns and at the moment I have three of them :D.

The first , -84 mars red GTI (campaign) was bought as an "major oil leaking" projekt that had not been moved for about 7 months. Cost 900 Sek, about 69? :). After some easy and not so costly repairs I gave it a try at the MOT. Not so successful when the rear axle was about to rust away from its mounting points, also the wish bones and a handful more complaints on rust made it to spare parts.

The second one a -83 grey metallic GTI with only three previous owners (+ two car firms) and some 77000 miles on the clock had a broken head gasket and according to the seller only superficial rust spots. A major part of those spots, when further examined, created large holes of missing steel :(. Major overhaul in progress. Price about 230?

The third, a -84 mars red GTI campaign, was bought as a halted race car project. No engine or gearbox and the only thing the interior had to offer was the electric loom, steering wheel and a complete dash. But one nice thing it had to offer was a roll cage, half of it already installed and the rest came along ready for welding. It had very little with rust and this one is now my priority. Engine will be taken from the grey and most of the interior from the first GTI. Price for this car, was a bargain with 77? changing hands :D.

Well that was some history about my mk1:ns
