In need of some advice.....

Hi guys, this is a great site tons of info but I need some more!!!

I'm a complete newbie to the VW scene, should have got involved a lot sooner.

Theres a Golf for sale at the end of my road that I've had my eye on for a few days now….

Not sure what model it is though, its on a 'D' plate is that 87? it's a 5 door model with GTI badges, looks like a MK1 but i'm no expert!

It has the 'P' slot alloys, does that make it a campaign model? (the centres are metal).

It also has the four lights on the front if that has any relevance. :dontknow:

Hope one of you guys can help me take my first steps into the GTi world!

PS. what kind of price should I pay? - 125k miles with a few bits of rust but otherwise looks ok

Sounds like a mk2 golf, mk1's were made 74-83 with the last being on an A plate. The campaign model was the last 1000 or so mk1 GTI's made in 83 and all UK mk1 GTI's are 3 doors. I'd say get a mk1, the original golf and hot hatch :wink: . Have a look at the buyers guide , campaign guide and mk1 guide

Sounds pretty cheap for a mk2 GTI, usually expect to pay ?500 upwards for average - good one. As with all 2nd hand cars will depend whether it has an mot, any serious rust or smoking engine.
