I'm new too :)

Hi all,
Well this weekend I decided to join your club.

I've been busy now for a year building a Kit car for a Friend and they guy in the next garage buys and sells cars. Saturday morning with a hang over I walk into his place an see a Golf cab sitting there Shocked

after talking to him getting a good price I put it up on the ramp to have a look and see whats what.

So far what I know is….

89, 1.8i, blue (re-sprayed), power steering, heated seats, paper work says in came to Holland in 98 (no idea from where).

VIN: WVWZZZ15ZKK030934

There are a few things wrong which I need to sort out but for the cost of 1500 euros seems like a good deal.

Needs New Rad, top and bottom rad hose, front barrings, leaking bit of oil form what looks like the rocker cover near the timing belt (been told gasket goes there a lot so will replace), makes a wining noise when turning (not sure if belt need adjusting or is pump for P/S)

Also the roof needs a clean in and out, out side had no mold but dirty and inside is white so I'm bit6 worried on how good that will clean up. Any advise would be great.

What do you guys think? good deal? problems ahead? No idea!

Any hints, tips, would be great.

Thanks

Matt

Hi yogi, welcome to the site. Where about in the Netherlands are you? I'm currently living about 1/2 hour east of Rotterdam. The weather is great just now for cabbys  8)

I think you should offer a little less than 1500 euros and see if he accepts as you will need to spend a few hundred on it. Good condition Cabbys in Holland seem to start at around 2-2500 euros and go up to 5000 euros for low mileage Classic Line and Sportline models.

Hi mate,
I'm not far from you in Den Haag close to the beach :-)

well story so far is I paid 1750 for it he woudln't move on that, but with my mate in the trade I managed to get all the parts needed fro 150 euros. so not to bad.

Now the problem is I'm looking around for the 'other' things I want/need

I do have one big problem working out what model it is. Once I get to the garage I will post up  some pics see if you can help me work out what it is.

got 140k klm on the clock, that good or bad now days for a '89? :dontknow:

Cool, my wife and I were at Scheveningen last weekend for the first time. It was a bit on the cool side though so not too many sunbathers to ogle at. There might be more this weekend if this weather holds though  8)

It seems like you got a deal on the parts and good luck getting it all done.
The mileage seems ok. My '91 cabby has 144K km and I consider that below average for it's age.

Looking forward to seeing some pics. There were loads of euro special editions so it might be quite hard to say which it is. Mine was originally Spanish and the log book says GTI so I have to go with that for now.

There is also a Dutch ebay style site, if you haven't seen it already, called Marktplaats ≥ Marktplaats - De plek om nieuwe en tweedehands spullen te kopen en verkopen  Look under Auto Diversen then Onderdelen VW. I found my leather interior here  :D

Cheers
Paul

No, unfortunately they're not heated. As for the door speakers I can only assume that my style of pods were part of a makeover or were on certain editions only  :dontknow:

well I got two heated seats and I spoke to my brother and he has said the euro models all had extra options and that could have been one of them.

I read somewhere that there was a 6 speaker system installed on teh later models and they were from '89 up…. mine is early 89 :(
