I'm new, hello
Hi all, I have just got my first mk1. Its 1978 1.5 Diesel in need of engine and gearbox. It came from a garage where it had been taken for repair. The engine and box were removed and for some reason work stoped time went on and eventualy the engine and box were thrown away. The car hung about in a corner for a few more years. Finaly a friend found it and ?100 later its mine!
I'm now off to the Teck section to ask people about finding engines. See you there!

I think I remember seeing this car advertised on Volkszone, you did good to get it for ?100 because it was something like 300-400 wasn't it?
Anyway, I think you're looking at a very faded Mars Red there.
Goof luck with the project and welcome to the site!

OK so It was from a friend and a gave him a few parts for his car in the deal but ?100 was the cash that changed hands
Tell me more about the 1.9aaz conversion, is that TDI?
I have a 1.6 TD in the garage that I was thinking about fitting but need to sort a gearbox, not sure what to use.
Will post pics as I go.
Thanks for the welcome!

Hi and welcome! It's a shame the engine wasn't in it, there are precious few 1.5d's left, it would have been cheaper tax than the 1.6d aswell. Nice biscuit coloured interior by the way! My dad's selling a running 1.9TD (75hp) out of a Vento (same as Mk3 Golf) if you're interested. Although your 1.6TD will obviously go straight in without any mods. Nice to see another diesel on the scene anyway! Here's my 1.6 Mars red diesel :

Ta for the comments. It's Mars Red, yes. I've slowly got it up to this standard over the last couple of years cos it was faded like 99% of them are, and needed the usual minor cosmetic repairs to be expected. The original engine is so reliable though, it's just keeping the rest of the car up to scratch that takes the work!
The wheels are Mk2 Golf 14'' steels. I wanted something non-GTI-ish, but wasn't that keen on the skinny original 13'' steels it had (they'd seen better days anyway), so opted for these as they're a bit chunkier…6J instead of 5J and take slightly lower profile tyres.
