Im from Yorkshire, im 20, female obviously, and ive got a strange obsession with VW's
I think its my dads influence. Ive had a mk1 before but it smelt of petrol and was falling apart a bit.

hello there.
i think i am one of the youngest mk1 gti owners on here at the tender (and very impressionable) age of 18.
ops:
I pride myself in the knowledge that I will be preserving my (imo) immaculate specimen. Hope you are not a "slam on 20' spinners" youngster too.

Being one of the more mature contributors on this forum I have to say how pleasing it is to see so many young uns taking up 'Golf' and staying clear of the usual Corsa's, Saxo's etc. I always thought young people got brand new cars these days and wouldn't be seen dead in a 2nd hand one. It's good to see. Keep it up !  :cheer:

the exact same reason i bought a golf, cos the "normal" thing to do is buy a new / nearly new car…..After driving a 306 for three years i wanted something different, fun, and that i can fix myself!

How did I get insured on a Gti at 18?
Well, you see it wasnt that hard to be honest. I am with admiral, for ?1200 TPFT. I am very happy with this price, but to be honest, I am really worried that something is going to happen to my car and the insurers will give me market value (?500).
My car is immaculate, and it currently in for a full engine rebuild (i have had it 5 weeks and it has been in for 4 weeks
) so should be worth about ?5000 in my opinion, but my policy is not an agreed value one.
Glad to hear that there are other young drivers out there who look to preserve the timeless classic of the mk1. I am just a lucky one who can afford the gti, they are all mk1s.

yeah, sorry that came out wrong, i meant to say that you have to have dedication and realise that you have to spend ALL your money on a Gti if you are really young. Luckily I have always wanted one and so have all my savings to put towards mine. I would be equally happy to have had a mk1 or any kind though.
VWlass, good luck with the hunt!
