Hello from Gloucestershire

Evening all.  I just found the site through Google and thought I'd sign up as I may be in the market for a Mk1 Golf GTi.

A bit more about me?  Well my name's Jon and I'm from Cheltenham in Glos.  I'm 36 now but my first ever car was a Lhasa Green Mk1 GTi (EFH 189Y) which I bought for ?750 in 1992!  To say I loved that car would be an understatement, it was my pride and joy.  I lowered it on Bilsteins, added a Magnex, BBS body kit, 5-spoke alloys, Zender roof kit and lots more.  I wonder if it's still around, maybe the owner is on here!

Here's a photo (was a scanned image so quality is a bit crap)…

Owned 3 further GTi's (all Mk1's) as well but the first was by far the best.

I'm looking for a car at the moment and would love an old skool Golf again, will have to see if one turns up which fits the bill.

Anyway, just wanted to say hello!

Oh, just found this mint programme too, from back in the day when I attended GTi International :)

Thanks pal :)

There's just something which has drawn me back to wanting another one.

I've had some pretty cool cars including a 306 Rallye, Impreza P1 and I currently drive a Renaultsport M?gane R26.

At the moment it's a flip up between a 306 GTi6 or a Mk1 GTi ;)

Welcome cuj i owned a helios blue campaign back in the early 90's then moved with the times as you do 2 mk2 gti's,mk3 vr6, audi's bm's etc etc.Always knew that i would have a mk1 again some day. Earlier this year got a silver campaign and joined this club.Meet loads of sound people and made loads of new friends. The comments and attention a mk1 gets is amazing.forget the 306gti6.You know it makes sense

Hiya  :D ….you have just took me back reading your post. Welcome by the way…Mine was an MK1 1100 70,000 on the clock and in white back in 1991 (probably rare now), my mate ran it into a lampost that apperaered in the road, :dontknow:  it broke my heart and it stayed with me untill I could afford another, not that I can afford the current one just lucky i have a vw scrapyard up the road and parts are resonable and fun to look for; The recent one was originally for my partner (maniputaed of course  ) but she could not get insurence for it so I guess I had to keep it. Yeah it was a bit of a dog but is that not half the fun of putting it back together  So may i suggest just buy the best of whats on offer at the moment and forget about the other car:

Evening folks. Hi Matty, I sold the car on to a chap in Cheltenham, can't remember exactly where or what he did with it but it was a private buyer.

Few more pics I found.  I seriously have the bug again for another, I'm just worried about having a 26 year old car as a daily driver.

That car was the nuts  :D

South Africa

why not import a brand new Mk1 made by VW of South Africa. They are phasing production of these out soon due to jigs getting old and increasing cost of keeping plant running. Just a thought! Here's a link

Obviously you will need to ship it, sva it, tax it etc but its brand new  :D
