Hello from a new mk1 Owner

Well, its far from a new mk1, but is new to me  :D

I have just bought myself an '83 'A' reg Mars Red 1.1c as a second car. I got it for ?25 from a mate at work who's had it for 8 years. The original idea was to have a cheap runabout that i didnt care about, but when i was offered a golf, that idea went out the window. I had an H reg mk2-16v oak green 3dr back in the day, so i'm a huge fan of golfs, and still think they're best in class.

The car needs some tlc right now (suspension, paint), my plan is to mod it in the future. Looking fwd to having a sweet mk1 . . . some day

I'll post a few questions in the restoration/technical areas,

all the best,
Greg

yeah, he's a good bloke . I think the fact that he knows i'll be gently restoring it over the years had something to do with it aswell. He's after a mk4 gti now.

Hi,

Just to let you know i picked up my mk1 today!
Its great fun, i'm really impressed with it. It seems to run really smoothly and accelerates ok for such a small lump. It needs soooooo much cleaning though. I think he stopped washing it 3 years ago, but a quick lick of the finger and rub on the paint showed some great colour coming thru, so mopping it might not be as long a job as i'd thought.

Think i'll change the oil and filters this weekend to be on the safe side. Do people use 15w50 in these 1.1s ?

I'll post pics of the progression :D

All the best,
Greg
