Expectant Mk1 Owner
Hi Everybody.
Been looking around the websites 4 Mk1 sites – looks as if this is where I will stop.
My name is Terry, I am a very very very young 54, I live in norf London and I drive a London Taxi (black cab - 2.7, auto, five seats 0-60 45 minutes) and (wait for it) a Bora 2.0SE (sorry people but dont castigate me 4 it). but have decided over the last couple of months of looking that I am going to get a Mk1 campaign (if I can find one). Any help would be appreciated, but I will have to do an exchange with my car. (sorry about some of the big words like 'castigated/campaign/appreciated' it must be my age)
Terry
(moderators - I sent a msg earlier but didnt see it come out - must have done something wrong - cancel this one if my other msg is still floating about, tks).

Welcome Terry!
You certainly wont regret buying a MK1 - serious grin factor!
Keep an eye on this site for cars for sale, eBay (but be careful and always view first!) and wagen wheel I hear isn't bad either if you want to buy from a dealer, see below
http://www.wagenwheels.co.uk/cars_for_sale.htm
Post some pics up when you get one!
Dont forget to check out the buying guides on the site here and link in FAQ section to old forum where you'll find lots of tips. A lot will depend on your budget but your best off spending more on a better car then less and budgeting for repairs etc. I spent ?1k on mine, which wasn't too bad a price for what I got but I must have spend ?1200 on it by now and I wont get ?2200 when I sell it!!
Good luck with your search

Hi Terry.
Welcome to the club.
Nothing wrong with a Bora - at least you are in the right stable.
Hope you find a good one, just be prepared to either pay a lot for a good one, or as said earlier, spend a lot to get it right. My Gti cost nearly ?1k, and I've spent well over ?2k on it to get it back to standard and looking good…..but it's been worth every penny !!!!

Hi Terry,
Welcome aboard! Glad you found us.
Quite a few campaigns go through our own classifieds section in this forum, so keep an eye on those.
Wagenwheels as mentioned is great (the proprietor is a member here). His cars are probably the best, but will be reassuringly expensive.
Another worth trying is volksdragon, if you fancy a trip to Wales.
You'll not regret a Mk1 from a drivers perspective, but make sure you're happy to leave the Bora's comforts behind!
Take your time looking, there are quite a few around and prices are still reasonable at the moment.
Cheers,
Drew,

Hi Terry,
Good to see you on the forum. The Mk1 does not differentiate on age (nor do we for that matter
)
As already said have a good look round and get to know the problems to look for and get to know the seller if you can.
I'll have a Silver campaign up sale in a month or so after a full body restoration including bare metal respray. Soz - no px tho'.
Cheers
Rich
