Looking at buying a wolfsburg steering wheel. The one with three spokes and the raised black ring. Should it be genuine leather and can you still buy the centre horn insert and ring insert seperate if i bought one where it was missing?

Quite a few can be found on eBay… both complete wheels and just the horn/center ring. Have a look around and get a feel for both what people are asking, and what they are actually selling for. Sometimes (quite often actually) these do command quite a high price.
I'm sure you can get a better deal poking around forums and finding a private sale that doesn't have a such bloated price tag due to the rarity (cassette holders anyone?).
Happy hunting!

Oddly enough one is up on eBay right now with quite a few bids:

Even if you're not quite ready to buy one, you can gauge how much you may be spending in the future.

Cheers guys, impressed with your response times. Advice is very much appreciated.
Seems its not worth panic buying on the one i have seen. I'll keep my eyes out for a better condition/priced one.
