VW Golf Mk1 Headlamp Replacement

I moved to Cyprus on retirement and brought my 1990 VW Golf Mk1 Cabriolet with me.

18 months ago, just after washing the car, I watched the LHS headlamp glass lens fall out and smash on the concrete.  I removed the headlamp and went to the local VW dealer who did not have a replacement and sent me to a VW breaker.  His first comment was :  “I suppose you have lost the spring?”.  I had not and he offered me a 30 year old headlamp for 100 Euros which I declined.

On next visiting the UK I got a replacement from eBay.  I did not have time to fit it on my return to Cyprus before unexpected having to leave.  I am due back soon.

The upshot is that after 18 months I cannot remember where the spring should be fitted!  Does anyone have a photograph or diagram which might help or can you explain where it should go?

Any help appreciated.
