Hi
Very new to the website and a first time Mk1 golf owner. I've recently purchased a mk1 clipper 1990 and am looking to replace discs, pads and callipers. Any ideas or best to replace
Most appreciated 👍🏻

1990's have vented Rotors, some of the web sites that sell things in the past have the wrong pads listed for vented rotors.
Solid Rotor Pads are thicker than vented so they won't allow the Caliper to be put on.
If your Bleeder ports can turn, you are better off buying a Brake hone and rebuilding your calipers your self, as the Kits are only about 6 bucks USD for each Caliper.
For pads use ceramic based ones as they are rotor friendly, take hard braking better as they work well when hot, and lot less brake dust.
For the rears, replace the wheel Cylinders, shoes, Drums and Bearings, I also do new parking brake cables and when you are don't with the rears you are good to go for a few years with usually no issues.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?
They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Why change the callipers? Are they leaking or pads binding to the discs?
Unless you are upgrading to bigger callipers?
If the original ones are working ok there's no need to replace them.
I've been using Brembo discs and pads and happy with them
New brake fluid will also help with the feel of the pedal.
The brakes are not going to feel as responsive as new cars with ABS as the ABS stops you locking up the wheels when braking hard, it takes longer to stop and you lose the steering when the wheels are not turning under heavy braking, you should be able to lock the wheels if you press hard on the pedal.

Hi
Thanks for the replies
No the callipers are fine it's simply for aesthetic's really, and yeah although the braking is different I'm actually very suprised by the performance of the non ABS
Thank you so much for the advice

A scrub with a wire brush can work wonders or even calliper paint if you want them to look newish...
