Should I do a 20vt conversion on my already modified mk1gti?
I have a mk1 gti which I’d describe as Oem++ it’s recently been restored and modified but I can’t decide if I should do a 20vt conversion on it or would it be best to leave it as is to retain more value for the future, just thought I’d ask what you guys think.
If I don’t do this I’ll do my ratty caddy

I'll say keep it's original engine, it's the heart of the car and once that's changed it won't drive the same as a original Mk1 golf GTi

Thanks for the reply I kind of agree and if it was standard I wouldn't even consider it but it's doubtful it'll ever go back to original now.
I'll prob do the caddy instead though

I don't know what you have done to it but from the picture is looks fairly standard and I guess most of the mods are improvements and if needed easily swooped to standard, an engine change to a 20v turbo conversion is quite major work.

Well it's fairly standard but it has a carbon roof and other details so it'd be a fairly big job to swap it back

I personally would keep the original engine

I wouldnt worry about the future, petrol engined cars could be banned overnight and then its worthless, 112 bhp is shopping trolley power now . Stick in the 20vt and enjoy it while its possible…

Go for the 20vt, just do it in a way your tripping over all the original parts in the garage for the next 20 years

You have only got a couple of years to go it until you can register the car as an historic vehicle and if you have the factory engine you don't need to MOT it every year….
