Mk1 cabriolet roof handle

Handle sheered off

My brother has accidentally snapped off the handle from the left side of my roof (the locking mechanism). It's sheered completely off - please can someone help me find a new one? I've found one online for £85, does that seem like a decent price? And does anyone know how much it'll cost labour wise to get it fitted or is it a relatively easy fix?

Also, when the roof comes down automatically, it seems to be slightly off to the left, and doesn't come down properly in some cases almost as though it's catching somewhere, so the mechanisms don't meet and it's hard to lock into place. Can someone please help me/recommend whether it needs a service and if so where's best to take it?

Sorry for all of the questions. I really appreciate your help, I've only owned my little cabriolet for a few weeks (and love it!!!) but I'm not mechanically very good… image.jpg

There is some adjustment on the locking hook if it's to tight/hard to lock down but you don't want it to lose or water/ air gets in when driving.

The handle is held on by 2 screws so fairly straight forward to change.

The roof does need to be oiled on the joints/moving parts and best done at least every couple of years.

I think Briano1234 may have a guide which you can find in his signature link…

I do push down on the roof when using the handle as I've broken 2 handles and it seems fairly common for the handle to snap. They are getting expensive and harder to find.

As for somewhere to take I can't help as Im miles away from you…

thank you so much for your quick response - I'll order one online and fit it myself in that case… thanks again you're a star.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?
