Hi all
Well dusted the cob webs of at the weekend in GTI. Noticed that under load the fifth gear is knocking , this only happens under load of the gas it go’s away then accelerate again it comes back .
Any idea guys what’s going on ,is it fixable or gear box out ???

5th gear is splash oiled. If your fluid level is low you can burn it out. if it i knocking I would drain it and refill it to the proper level. Use a good quality fluid/oil.
Some over here use Redline, or Royal Purple.
Then if it is still knocking I suggest that you peruse Brians (Not ME.). Brokevw.com

Folks have done it in the car, but if I was going to do it. I would take it out and then refresh the clutch, pressure plate, push rod, to bearing, and the Finger. Hopefully be done with it for a few years. Mounts as well.
