which throttle cable for mk1 16 valve conversion?

Hi everyone whats the best throttle cable to use on my mk1 cabrio 16 valve conversion thanks,original cable has the wrong fitting throttle body end, I bought a 16 valve cable and this is not fitting properly either, what about a mk 1 carburettor cable?

Why isn't the 16v cable fitting properly? I cut my Gti one and re crimped it to make it fit using push bike stuff from Halfords :)

mk2 gti cable works, just give it some spray lube as it needs a bit of a tight bend. i hear mk1 1.0-1.3 cable works, but make sure its late spec as i think early ones have wrong end at throttle side

Anyone else with 16 valve conversion willing to share which cable their using? Tried 16 valve cable but did not find it fitted suitably as there was not enough adjustment to take up the slack

i used mk2 gti/16v worked fine. i had to tweak the throttle pedal a little bit but i dont know if that was due to the mk2 cable or if it had been bent in the past by badly adjusted cable, a common problem

16 valve cable did not have enough adjustment on the throttle end to take up the slack in the cable also was sticking as it has to bend around too tightly to reach throttle body, some say a passat 16 valve cable is longer and will do , also as suggested earlier in this post a 1.1 or 1.3 cable, just trying to find out what other people are using for this conversion thanks.

I'm using a 1990 carbed cab cable and it fits perfectly, shame the engine won't run though lol

Hi I fitted a mk1 carburettor type cable it fits perfect.
What kind of exhaust manifold are you running? four branch?

Thanks for that, I'll have to hunt one down.

I have a 4 branch mild steel. I bought the engine with it already on. Looking at keeping the original exhaust which requires a pipe that reduces from 2.5 inch to 2 (internal diameter) but it also has to be kinked to get over the anti roll bar. It's never simple!

i used two reducers (available from any good exhaust place) to get the size down (ashley 4branch to cab OEM), one slipped into the other and welded them up, then i notched the exhaust to clear the roll bar but i'm not happy with the notch i think its a bit too small and neat  (i used a peice of bar that fitted over the roll bar with about 10mm clearance and then sliced it in half, i think i'll re-do it and support the top of the exhaust in a tight fitting cradle and crush the lower part to make it look like its been pinched to clear, this will give smoother lines and better flow than the notch :thumbs:
