Otherwise what about a 2l 16v swap ??
Top end and BHP power doesnt really matter as im more interested in the 0-60

Have a 2.0L 16V myself, but not set up properly yet so couldn' really comment. Having been in his I would guess the low down kick of the 8V would be best for 0-60?

TBH, you're better of going the 2.0 16v route like Manic. Simply because you can get more bhp for less money. A 2.0 16v 9A with KR cams will easily give you 150bhp!
One of the PVW boys runs a ABF engined MK1 and with just a zorst, filter and re-map he managed to get over 180bhp! I think at the last RR session he managed to get a tad over 190bhp!!

Isnt the 2l 8v an easier swap though as i can just get my existing head ported and polished (3aa head) and fit a cam to the 2l bottom end and transfer my existing items such as water pump to the 2l block (from my DX)
Isnt the 2l 16v a whole different pain in the arse or am i just worrying :-)
Also i know the 3a engines are the short blocks but if i used a tall block model DOES it catch on anything in a mk1 cab ????

Running a tall block myself the only mod to the shell of the car i needed to do was to remove a small section of the scuttle around the throttle linkage .Got to be the cheapest conversion even a standard exhaust fits but don't expect huge power gains - i'm disappointed with mine and will be fitting a 20l 16v this coming winter .
