Wheel Spacers

Looking for recommendations really. I'd like to get hold of some 10-15mm jobbies just to widen the stance slightly.

I've heard they can give problems at higher speeds resulting in some vibrations so want to try and avoid this if possible. Also does anyone know a good place for longer wheel nuts with chrome ends?

Really, ell me more!

I know a lot of people use them but I wouldn't have called them a "horrible bodge". Why are they so bad?

No i was just being dramatic. i dont suppose a 10mm one is going to cause any problems. but even a 10mm one is going to reduce the et from  say 35 to 25 which is not what vw specify. they will put more strain on wheel bearings however little. i cant believe they are needed on the front where the wheel sticks out anyway. on the rear i would prefer to put the spacer behind the stub axle, but thats just me.

Thanks for your help, perhaps I'll avoid them then. Or at least think more seriously about it than before.

so wheel spacers are a bad idea for a bit of an easier way of getting more of a stance. Will they really cause that much problems

They overload the bearings (because the wheel is no longer in the centre where the bearing is, but to one side of it, putting excessive leverage on it). Also, they take away the negative offset which means you don't lose control if you have a flat tyre (on the front).

So you in effect have et 20. the other point here is lots of front drive if not all and including the mk1 have a wider front track. now im sure this is for a reason and you have just eliminated this. im not saying you,ll crash or its dangerous merely the spec of the car is different from what vw designed.

rallydesign sell spacers and extended bolts,.not sure if they do chrome+not sure if they have a noticable negative effect either but thats where u can get em from.

Spacers can also be regarded as shit as they allow the wheel a small amount of movement when torquing up, hubcentrics  spacers eliminate this but cost much more!

Thanks for the reply but I've never been able to figure out if this is censored by a Mod or the member. Can someone clarify as the post means very little without the missing word, or words.

This is an automatic word censor to replace profanity.  Unfortunately this is necessary as people still swear even though they are clearly requsted not to in the forum guide.

Didn't anybody tell you I was a big kid? This is sooooo tempting, but I will be strong.

Oh BTW thanks for letting me know.
