what do you think

first of all let me tell you the story of how i came to own a mk1.
the short verson myself and the wife was out having a few pops with a few mates (who all own mk2's) and my wife was saying she wanted a mk1 convertable, some one poped up saying he knows someone who;s selling one for 150 pound i thought he'd just had to much to drink anyway the next day he phoned me to have a look so i thought what the hell, it had been in an smash but most of the damage had been repaired (front) the hood was in good nick the rear needed a bit of welding and the sills were in good condition. after a day to think about it i decided to get it for her, so an hour later and 90 pound it was on my drive.

like i said it does need work but i bought as a project this way i get to work on a car without the wife moaning at me.

so far ive took the dash out bumpers off, lights out just general stripping ready for welding and then spraying, oh yes and i started fabricating some wider arches so have a look and let me know what you think it is still in the fiberglass stage so its not smooth yet.

Sounds liek a bargain!

Think will look ok, as long as the wheels are right to fill the arches   They're similar to the Group 2 (?) arches - these are damn expensive but was a post recently abou this as the extra track (prob wider than yours would be) puts a lot more stress on running gear.

Perhaps do a search of forum and see what you can find.

Nice one though and keep us posted

Cheers
Andy

I quite like these wide arches on the right car with wide rims they do look cool, there was a german one not so long ago in black I think which was very low and had these on it, it looked awesome 8)

How are you making up the arches? You must be using something as a shape guide?

You are going to need a seriously cool set of wheels to pull those off - probably cost you ten times the price of the car!  8O

i used the old plastic arches as a base and just extended them out the rears are 6inch wide and the fronts are going to be around 4 - 5 inch wide but im playing with the idea of not haveing any side skirts on. i personaly think it looks good without the back bumper on but its the legal side thats stopping me.

I drove my old mk1 for just under a year with no bumper, and 3 months of that I worked at Herts police headquarters…

never took it through MOT with no bumpers on though.
