what cylinder heads fits a 1.8 gti block

Hi,

I've taken my cylinder head off the vw mk1 golf gti 1.8 dx engine. I've noticed a lot of play in the valves. So instead of replacing them with new parts, I thought I could possibly change the cylinder head to a later model golf?

What cylinder heads are a direct replacement with the standard cylinder head that I can use?…are there any?

any mk1/2/cabrio/scirocco 1.8 k-jet head is a straight swap, a mk2 digifant head will go too but you'll need to change the injector inserts. my preference would be a later one with hydro tappets to save the faff of shimming them, but if you get a solid one and your old one is solid too you should have enough spare tappet shims 'in stock' to sort it without too much effort
