VWSA 1.8 CITI GOLF CL

Hi all

Ive returned back to this site after nearly 3 years having found myself another MK1 to play with.

However, its a South African Citi golf 1994 with the 1.8 8v carb engine (the bomb proof one), i believe its the GTI engine with a carb but still learning, so not sure??

Id like to know my options for a nice carb conversion kit and if anyone can steer me in a direction with this modern mk1 then id be very grateful.

Engine code is HV122998

HV code is 90hp, block & pistons are same as the 1.8 gti and carb, cylinder head is same as carby 1.8.

so it looks liek what you have is bog std mk1/2 1.8 carb engine, but with keihin carb rather than 2e2

Can i buy a sports exhaust system for my engine if the exhaust manifold is the same as a GTI??

Also is the cambelt the same?

cambelt will be the same as pretty much all 1.8 8v engines from mk1-3, exhaust i think should be the same diameter as a GTI anyway. if in doubt buy a GTI exhaust manifold and downpipe

Just back from SA and amazed at the number of MK 1s, even saw the police using them. The later ones have modern dashboards and a swage line in the top of the rear 1/4 panel. Huge variety of colours including the Gold/Sand from way back. The Chico model was the most common
