The quest for capacity-Audi 2.0 8V conversion how's it done?
I've heard of this has been done in the past but is it as straight forward as it seems (drop the cars original head on top)?

What would I need to do for the conversion? Has anybody here done it? :dontknow:
I'm suspecting the block is taller and therefore an adapter for the exhaust is required but I'm unsure of the rest of the work required ie mounts and fuelling.
My plan is to buy an Audi 2.0 engine…..
(What?s the best engine and of what car Audi 80/coupe?)
…….send it to Lancaster engines and have some work boring; lightening; balancing work done. Then bolt this onto my ported and polished head (when I get it) with Kent gs2 cam.
This is my plan, which allows me to drive the car around whilst saving up, and modify the new 2.0 engine. I can then strip her down for the respray drop the new 2.0 8v in with new gearbox (sitting in storage).
Bobs your uncle 2.0 8v MK1
What do you think?
Any advice welcome

I used to own a mk1 - well I've had 2 actually - YDU 720X & SMU 420Y. Currently I drive an 98 Scotia White Mitsubishi Evolution V RS…. fancy getting another mk1 someday

You need to use your Gti head and everyting else including sump (I think).
Haven't done the swap yet but have a 3A engine in the garage myself ! Took me ages to find one that hadn't done mega miles though ……..

I was going to put it in my Campaign, but think I'll be using it in my Caddy now. I will be doing the swap myself. The car mine came out of was older than a 1994 but as it was about 18mths ago I can't quite remember what year it was. Best you can do is look for the engine number on the donor car and see if it starts with 3A. Should have the number on the VIN plate on the slam panel (I think).
I'll try and remember to get in the garage and take some pics of it for you if you're still struggling

From memory, the two tall Audi 8v blocks are AAD & ABK (not sure on the second one, but I have an AAD ready to fit into a GTI later this year, so I'm sure of that one)
I think that all of the type 8C Audi 80's ('92 - '95, Grille is part of bonnet, 15" rims) have tall blocks, and the type 89 ones ('88 - '91, grille is part of front panel, 14" rims) have the short block that you would prefer.
By the way, the tall blocks are ok to use, it's just that you'll need the Tim Stiles kit to account for the extra 10mm and the different distributor size.
PS: there are also 2.0 16v Audi engines (tall block) - 6A and ACE are these codes - I have an ACE in my daily driver Audi 80 Avant.
