Coming close to getting my car finished 2.0 8v , fitted lrg Audi throttle body then found out I need to fit lrg warm up reg with , screw in back so got one of them but how do I go about setting it up? Will it affect car when I first start it if it needs setting up , as engine has just been fully rebuilt, also what vac pipes go to which on them , the original one the vac pipe goes from throttle to dizzy is this one the same or guessing it has has another that goes to throttle to, warm up ??? Thanks

Yes it may affect the start up if the control pressure is set too low or too high, lean or rich running.
The vacuum can be plumbed anywhere in the vacuum circuit - its only purpose is to allow enrichment for a fraction of a second when the throttle is banged open.
You need a pressure gauge to set it up properly - best not to guess as you do not want the engine to run lean.

Thanks would it be better to just get it done correctly what equipment Di you need? ,so I can just t -off any vac pipe to plumb it in?

Yep you can t-ee off anywhere.
You just need a pressure gauge with a tap to be able to switch between control and system pressure.
The adjustment is pretty easy to do your self - but do make sure it is done - you don't want to wreck you engine.
Where are you ?

You can always borrow my gauge - a bit of a lashed together affair, but it works well and importantly has old injector lines on it so it fits perfectly.
You are not that far away (I am in Stafford) - you could pick it up and do it yourself - or I could post it out to you if you cover the postage costs both ways (Recorded).
Just depends if you are confident to set the WUR up your self ?

do you know what your doing with it then? i watched a vid of it being done but to be honest i would sooner just get it done fancy doing it ?wouldn't be for a couple of weeks and would pay your fuel/time just want it done right engine has cost a grand to do and don't want to wreck it for the sake of not knowing what i am doing, its going my mate's garage to have exhaust put on and anti roll bars last finishing bits that are easier to do on a ramp rather than on the floor so we could do it there/up to you but failing that be great to borrow it,from what the vid showed, needs to 1.5 psi then raising to 3.5 wants it warm, then turn it off and should go to 5psi you adjust by adding washers?then you need to set co2 level which can be done at his garage as it mot place as well .

Yes I do know how to set the WUR up but I have just moved house and will not have any spare time for the next few weeks.
The cold pressure is about right, the last Audi one I set up was way too low and therefore gave a very rich start up. The way to tweak the cold pressure is to drive the spigot that the bimetallic strip is mounted on in or out - that sets the starting pressure point. It is a bit of trial and error to ensure that it is not too rich from start up.
The pressure should rise linearly with heat from the bi-metal strip and the engine - this is critical to,good running during the warm up period.
For the warm pressure 3.5 bar is the ball park figure that will give you a good mixture for flat out. To alter the pressure you need to drill out the brass dome on the back of the regulator to reveal an allen headed screw - turning this is often referred as the "WUR mod". So you can set the pressure to ensure that it is within VW's spec. But what you really want it is set while on a rolling road because you might find that you can squeeze a few more bhp by making the fueling a little richer and also ensure that it is not leaning out as many kjet setups do. A good aim is a 11.5:1 air fuel ratio when flat out - good for a cooler burn and power. A good operator will adjust the timing as well to squeeze a little more out without pinking.
You also want to make sure the enrichment diaphragm is in tact by sucking in the pipe, you should only be able to suck a small amount other wise it is bust.
The 5 bar system pressure wants checking first as it is no good setting the control pressure if this is not right. The injectors open at about 4.4 bar or 63PSI. You can add or remove washers to the system pressure regulator on the side of the metering head to raise or lower the pressure.

Hi just reading your post about this, and I thought the 3A conversion was going to be easier than dropping a 16v KR in… can you give me any info on the warm up reg I need to fit?
cheers
