you can use the mk2 16v, or any four stud mk3 rear discs, golf, vento etc. The only thing you need to get aswell as the whole disc setup are some scirocco 16v handbrake cables. other than that its a straight swap really.
cheers bob.
Mk1 golf gti campaign… 16v ish…
MK3 gti 16v

Also in theory drums are actually more efficient, it's only because theyr'e more easily serviced that they use discs really that and that theyr'e lighter and so reduce unsprung weight and improve the handling. Best set up on a budget would be to bolt on the 16v servo, heck of an improvement.

q2: what is the best set-up for improved breaking mk2 or mk3.
q3: what is the best servo to use mk2 or mk3.
q4: is the mk3 discs bigger than the mk2.
q5: does the mk2 or mk3 front set-up fit on the mk1.
q6: is there any complacations when doing the change over or is it quite straight forward.

Q2. Much better caliper, same carrier. mk4 caliper is half the weight with a slightly larger piston and different carrier. Mounts the same.
Q3. I used a Passat one. Same as 16V mk2 Golf without sounding as rare.
Q4. Don't know.
Q5. Neither just bolt on. Need Audi carriers, unless you go for 280mm G60 discs with a mounting adapter for the caliper.
Q6. Easy enough. The hoses were the only thing that required a bit of thought. The beam needs to relieved where one of the rear carrier bolts gets a bit close.
