if you have a later MK1 cabrio then they use a slightly different caliper carrier which has a big hoop over the front of the caliper, this is what causes clearance issues. you can just change it for an earlier carrier from a mk1 golf without the hoop, and retain the VWII caliper

basically, all of the above but no hoop
when you're looking you usually find them still attached to the calipers, rather than on their own. e.g.:

just to be sure, do yours look like the ones on the left, or the ones on the right:

Got both types for vented discs yes so if you where to but the brake setup im selling http://vwgolfmk1.org.uk/forum/index.php?page=topicview&id=engine-and-running-gear_2%2Fgti-brakes&= i can make sure you get the correct carries (right ones in that pic for vented discs) cheers
