PD TDi into mk1......been done?
Has anyone attempted/succeeded in converting a Mk1 golf to PD TDi spec?
I know a few have done the early 1.9 tdi's engine codes: 1Z, ALZ…etc….but i would like a 130 or 150 bhp engine to start with.
Would i be able to use CE2 electrics/fusebox, would the PD TDi loom plug into a CE2 fusebox?
Got an urge to do this conversion so any pointers to get me going in the right direction would be great.

I've searched….seem to be a bit thin on the ground. The normal diesel conversion appears to be the 1z or AAZ engines. The PD is a totally different animal.MissMk1 said

yes hopefully getting on with the shell now. only had the mk1 this week.
then need to get a temp car to drive round in whilst i strip the mk4 and fit it all into the mk1.
i am going to attempt to fit the mk4 dash and heate motor etc and try and make the car feel modern inside whilst keping the looks of the mk1

been looking into this and the hardest part is fitting the dash heater box pedal assembly etc.
a couple fo ways to mount suspension
020 gearbox and use standard suspension
02j box with cable change and custom shafts
or try use 02m by trying to fit mk4 suspension etc etc
im going to try option 3
i have a 1l4 16v mk4 gearbox and engine and full suspension etc so i am going to try and mount that engine in there and then the pd should fit after.
ideally i need to find another pd130 to use as a doner as the project and still be able use my car if it all goes out the window

Mot sure if the PD engine/ECU/Immobiliser is the same set up as the 1Z TDI, but if it is, its wise to buy a complete car with the PD engine as you'll need to marry up the key to the key reader to the immobiliser and thus the ECU otherwise it wont start.
It worked out quite good buying a complete MK3 Golf TDI and breaking it down for the engine and associated components, bought the MK3 for £300, stripped out what I needed, then sold the MK3 02j box for £50, the alloy wheels for £70, various other bits off the Mk3 for another £70 and then scrapped it for £85.
End of the day, if you buy a complete car, you should not be short of enough bits to help complete the project

the immo isbuilt in through the
key
clocks
key reader
fuse box (pretty sure)
i would basically need to use the complete loom which means using the dash and airbox from the pd wouldmake life easier if i can fit it.
im off this afternoon and will go have a bit of a play and see what i can do.
