Have you read the FAQ's and do you have the conversion guidlines? There are several different ones kicking about that are very useful. The good ol haynes also comes in handy!

So have you wired up the 16v ignition control?

Can you clarify what you mean by "the coil is live but there is no live coming from the coil lead"? There's 3 connections on the coil, for a start….

Basically, can you explain which variation of ignition wiring you have done, and what is connected to what, etc. There is a feint possibility the wiring is correct but one of the components is faulty….but no way of knowing before the wiring is investigated.

How are you testing if its live or not?

Well, the king lead is about 10,000V, and its a very short pulse, so it won't show up on a multimeter, or it will blow its electronics inside, or it will short out through your hand instead of the multimeter and give you a nasty shock.

You need to test for a spark by putting a spark plug into the end of the king lead and holding it with a pair of insulated pliers, with the thread of the spark plug touching against a sound earth point. Or by leaving the HT leads connected up and using a timing light.

If the ignition is on, you'll see a steady +12V on one of the coil connections and an intermittent (1 per 180 deg turn of the crank) on the other one. Can you tell us which colour wires are connected to which coil terminals?

In fact, can you also list everything else which is connected, to do with the ignition system.
