mk5 gti engine conversion

Ive been thinking long and hard about changing the engine in my mk1 as it keeps playing up, and have recently come across a mk5 gti engine, gearbox, loom, starter motor, ecu, driveshafts and mounts. How much work would it take to put one of these in. Custom engine mounts i take it will be needed.

Any help will be much appreciated.

suppose it would be very similar to putting a 1.8 20vt in from say a MKIV - custom engine mounts will be required - there are threads on here about 1.8 20vt into MK1 so have a search and read to give you an idea

Not a popular conversion . Yet . The engine management has caused problems . Costs would be massive . Stick to the 1.8T .
