hi everyone just wondering if this is a simple bolt in job or if its a pain in the **** as i rather fancy one on carbs in my 1.5 gx
any help or info would be great
cheers
Depends which 1.6 crossflow you go for. The earlier ones have the same cast iron block as you already have, so that will bolt straight in.
The later ones have a aluminium block like a 20v, for this you will need a 20v conversion mount for the cambelt engine mount.. then it will bolt straight in..
I have a complete later AKL lump that I've been trying to sell with no takers so may drop it into my mk1 with megasquirt just to see what its like..

I cannot help but think that an AKL like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2000-VOLKSWAGEN-GOLF-1-6-AKL-ENGINE-MANUAL-ENGINE-IS-RUNNING-AND-TESTED-/181018955218?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2a25920dd2
would look awesome in a nice mk1, especially as its airbox is in the same place in the bay as a mk1 GTI…

thanks for that, now that i know what to look for i can start saving for the conversion and the akl could look really cool in a mk1 but my personal preference on one would be bike carbs instead of standard injection ,is the akl an alloy block or is it the oldskool iron block? as it might be worth the extra effort for an alloy blocked crossflow as i hate when a block goes rusty and the rest of the enjoy looks really clean

cheers, might actually think about the AKL conversion then seen as its basically a 20v but better because its an 8v
Its a shame you're so far away as we could have done a deal on this one I have..
