mk1 with audi sport engine

have just bought a mk1 with what previous owner told me was an rebuilt 1985 Audi sport engine,is this a common transplant? it seems to rev a lot more freely than my old mk2 8v. Any info i would be grateful eg.power common parts with gti.

Might be a 2litre ? Have you had a look at rear to see what is stamped on it , what is the engine number ? If you post that someone will i am sure identify it

Audi used the same type of engine in it's 80 model , but it had more horse power , larger throttle bodies etc ………
