Mk1 golf coversion to make it into a convertible

Hello just bought a mk1 golf and interested to see if possible to convert into a convertible, if so has anyone done it and any tips and best way to proceed. Rumour has it that if you cut the roof off you lose a lot of rear stability????

You could just buy a cabriolet!?

If you buy a tintop, keep it as a tintop, that's when they're at their best!

1980 Black GTI - now sold
2002 Black GT TDI 130

Hard tops a much rarer than cabriolets. A conversion like that is just a waste when there are so many more cabrios out there. Plus it would have crap handling, cabrios are structurally designed not to have a roof hard tops arn't, no roof equals bendy car which equals crap

So when did the Cabby start production and what exactly are the production figures between the two variants?

Besides Mk1 Golfs are still in production today!

i recon cabbys are more common, just the people who drive them dont realise they mk1s and prob think they are mk2s cos of the age? and therefore havent registered????

i always get a blank look from cabby drivers when i wave to them when im in my golf get the impression they are thinking "why is that weirdo in that old golf waving at me" :?

I go for wind up.

the cabby has different doors, rear panel, roll over bar, strengthend floor, strengethend sills, different boot lid…….different seat belts different rear seat……..stregthend knee board…….etc

Never worth the hassle and Cabbys are everywhere for fair money vs condition compared to tintops.

marsredgti donate your pound please

Must be a wind up or just plan  :banghead:
I have a LHD Cabrio  :D  that would swap for a tintop.
it must be easier to convert to RHD than to Cabrio  :dontknow:
