MK1 Convertible Modification.
I have upgraded my MK1 Convertible with a 1.8 engine and a pair of Weber 45 carbs. But I just cannot get the maximum power from the carbs. Any suggestions with regards to the jetting will be greatly appreciated.

45s are a little too big for a 1.8 unless you have done more modifications to it like more agressive cams and ported and polished the head. the oly way you will ever get the best out of these carbs is to get it on a rolling road so that you can see exactly what is happening with the air/fuel ratio throughout the entire rev range at varying loads. the problem that you have here is that the carbs need to be set up to your engine because all engines are a little different. you do need to make sure that the rolling road operator knows what he is doing with carbs though there are a lot out there that dont as this is old technology and most people use efi. the best option is to speak to people that have had this done and find out where they went and go there.

Thanks for your advise. I have fitted a stage two cam but not ported and polished the head. Will do that and see if it works. What I didnt mention earlier is that I live in Sri Lanka and we do not have rolling raods here. Everything has to be done manually. Anyways, thanks once again for your information.
