Welcome aboard mk1!

Our member G60RGE has recently done a 16V conversion so I hope he may be able to answer your questions (including your other post about 5th gear ratio.)

Check his post http://www.vwgolfmk1.org.uk/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=1320&highlight= to see if this helps.

I'm sure he'd give you any advice you need.

Cheers
Andy

hello ello! :D

the standard 8v gti pump is sufficient to run a 16v no problems provided it is running on k-jet injection..

the only thing u need to do is bend your fuel lines over to the opposite side of the engine bay to reach the metering head/fuel distributor  which now has to be on the left unless u have been lucky enough to get ur mitts on a scirroco 16v inlet manifold 8O !

anything else u need give us a shout!

good luck mate

Hi guys
Thanks for the replys,i actually changed the engine to a 1.8 16v(kr) about 3 years ago and never drove as i then sent it off to be respayed and between me moving house and the guy being busy we are just getting round it doing it now
I have used an ashley 4-2-1 exhaust and having the head re-worked and 2.0  bottom end re-worked.
Cant wait to get back in it  :P

Oh yea one more question which radiator is best ?Is the 8v one upto the job?

You seem to be sorted for answers so far (sorry I missed the first few posts above), but just to let you know that my daily driver is an Audi 80 2.0 16v (ACE engine code), so if you want to know about the "ins and outs" of this engine, and how it's fitted in the original car, I should be able to help. (topside photos available, if required)

(As you now know, the fuel pump has a similar flow capacity, and the radiator is also relatively similar - a bit bigger on the Audi, but not enough to cause you trouble when using the 16v engine with a Mk1 radiator.)

Hi
Thanks once more for the replys this is a goood site i have posted on other forums and had no replys!,but not the case here !
The 2.0 bottom end is actually an 'ace' audi block so thanks for letting me know'type 17'.
I will get some pics up of my car and the rebuild as soon as i get back from hols in a week 8)

Your car looking really well g60rge!

And another question about the conversion which is best head gasket to use and would it be better to be genuine vw or aftermarket??

Decent-quality Head Gaskets from GSF should be ok - ask the GSF guy what brands he carries, and are they any good - if he more than one type, get the more expensive one.

PS: Just checked the make of the (good-quality) sump gasket I have in my stock, and it's a make I see a lot - "Topran" - see if they do Head Gaskets too.

best gaskets to use imo is from vw! only use gsf if u have no choice, thats my motto!
