HELP!! mk1 golf g60 conversion trouble
Hi there i have a mk1 golf cabby and im looking for a guide to changing my sluggish 1.8 carb engine to a g60 lump, i know it has been done before but cant find a list of things that need doing. does anyone know if the engine mounts fit ok, any problems i might encounter on the way any help will be appreciated

I would guess that the engine should fit straight in, as the G60 lump is also a 1.8 (not 100% sure though).
Other than physically fitting it under the bonnet, you should be ok, except maybe for the wiring which may cause a few problems.
How much experience do you have in this sort of thing?

hi there thanks for the advice i have had loads of experience with turbo conversions on fords but is the first ever VW i have ever owned (but hopefully not my last). i have a full corrado G60 here and my Mk1 golf clipper the corrado has had a rear end smash so was hoping to swap the engines over

Seeing as you have the whole car (Corrado) and you've done this sort of thing before, you should be absolutely fine…
If you're not familiar with VWs though, I would recommend getting the Haynes "Restoration Manual" for the VW Golf - this is based almost entirely on the Mk1 and is supposed to be the best.
There's also a guy on here called bens_cab who is doing a 1.8T conversion on his clipper - he may be a good contact as he has the same type of car, and he's offered advice before on it to a couple of people already - check out this thread…
